The Celina Education Association (CEA) has filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against the Celina Board of Education for violating Ohio law regarding negotiations. “The school board has been discussing negotiations in public venues – school board meetings, school board candidate forums and on social media. The CEA was forced to file the Unfair Labor Practice charge against the Board because Ohio law clearly states negotiations are to be conducted in private. The Board’s open comments were misleading and made in order to directly deal with the CEA members. The Board’s actions constitute interference with CEA as its sole bargaining representative and coercion of the CEA membership” said CEA spokesperson Steve Stewart. “Furthermore, the school board is allowing an outsider, their attorney, to dictate when the parties negotiate. The CEA has requested a return to the negotiations table and is eager to settle a fair contract. Please contact school board members Matt Gilmore and Amy Hoyng and urge them to honor the collective bargaining process and settle this contract.” Matt Gilmore’s phone number is 419-363-3870 and Amy Hoyng’s phone number is 419-586-2041.
CEA is a local affiliate of the Ohio Education Association (OEA) and the National Education Association (NEA). CEA represents the approximately 199 teachers, librarians, nurses and counselors in the Celina City School District.
